How to help our Edmonds community during the Covid-19 pandemic.
With COVID-19 affecting our immediate area, we expect there to be impacts to the families we serve. At this point in time, we expect the biggest most immediate impacts to be economic.
Many of our families work minimum wage in the service industry with no ability to telecommute. Many are being sent home due to slow business or having their hours cut way back. This is going to affect their ability to pay rent and utilities in the coming weeks.
Even if the virus does not spread in our schools, COVID-19 is still going to hit our families hard.
We are asking our community to consider sending a direct donation to Washington Kids in Transition via our PayPal link so that we can be prepared to meet this need and prevent families from potentially losing their shelter, heat or electricity because of this economic slowdown.
Donations can be made securely on our website: https://washingtonkidsintransition.org/donate/
Also, for those who have asked, there is a contingency plan in place via our social workers for emergency food distribution should schools close. Right now we are also collecting gift cards for grocery stores that can be distributed to families. Kroger (Fred Meyer, QFC), Winco, or Grocery Outlet are suggested options. Gift cards can be arranged to be dropped off at our office, please PM us on the FB page.
We will update with any food needs should schools close for an extended period of time.
We thank you for your support and generosity!

The Pacific Northwest’s blood supply is at risk of collapse in the coming days. The
accelerating number of blood drive cancellations due to the closure of schools, businesses, and events
over coronavirus concerns has put nearly 60% of the community’s blood supply in jeopardy. With
exponentially decreasing opportunities for the public to donate, our community blood supply is in real
danger. For the safety and care of current and future patients, Bloodworks is urging the community to
step up to donate and spread the word of the current need.
